Saturday at sunset I took a drive across the river to Eckerts in Belleville, IL to pick up some "just picked." It was a beautiful evening and I forced myself to stay on task and not linger too long. We've had a good amount of rain so the fields of corn are lush and better yet the peach crop abundant. The warm breeze was delightful as I drove back, windows down, with the car full of peaches. An hour or two later the ovens were filled with peach pies, juicy peach pies. At least three times I spooned out the juice that was ready to overflow.
Sunday at the St. Albans Farmer's Market the pies went fast and sold out with my pledge to bring even more next Market Day. It was wonderful to meet new visitors to the Market and of course great to see those who return for their fresh pie each week. We are all so so busy and I hope you find the time to serve yourself a slice, sit out on your porch and take in the summer evening. Enjoy some conversation with a friend or the choral conversation of the summer bugs from the treetops.
The next Market Day in St. Albans is Sunday, July 21st, noon-4. Fresh Peach Pies are of course available NOW, Simply click "our Pies" to place your order.
