Fresh Fruit & Fresh Flavors Welcome Summer With a Fresh Pie & Old Favorites with the Retro-Pie
Longer days, a chorus of birds before sunrise, a chorus of frogs at dusk, are just a few welcome indicators that SUMMER is here. With a fiercer winter than most behind us, seeing mosquitoes, weeds and poison ivy isn't so bad either. Although there is year-round availability of most produce these days, I'm sentimental for the seasons. Buying a box of fresh blueberries in February just does not appeal to me. With that in mind, I'm excited to offer fresh pies for Summer. As you welcome in the new season this week savor the flavors.... the first pork steak, ribs...

Just Peachy
Saturday at sunset I took a drive across the river to Eckerts in Belleville, IL to pick up some "just picked." It was a beautiful evening and I forced myself to stay on task and not linger too long. We've had a good amount of rain so the fields of corn are lush and better yet the peach crop abundant. The warm breeze was delightful as I drove back, windows down, with the car full of peaches. An hour or two later the ovens were filled with peach pies, juicy peach pies. At least three times I spooned out the...

Enjoy Local
The mid summer is here. The chorus of cicadas fills the backyard, fireflies are loving the warm, humid nights, and be sure to savor the longest hours of daylight. Local peaches are here and that is a celebration in itself. We are taking full advantage of the bounty of Summer. A summer favorite is a slice of fresh peach pie. There are not a lot of ingredients used in our peach pies. As with all of our pies, we want you to enjoy all the flavor of the fruit so we keep it simple. This season you have a number...

The Pies of Spring
Popping up through the blanket of snow outside my front door I can see the crocus and daffodils, there are robins all around, and the sun is out a bit longer every day. These signs of good things to come caused me to start on Spring baking and I am so happy to have a few Spring pies to post! The flavors for Spring are predominately fruit. Lemon Sponge is a soft texture that reminds me of a baked lemon pudding I enjoyed as a child. The zest and juice of fresh lemons is balanced by a moderate amount of...
